Advanced Motivational Interviewing
February 2025
This training is for learners who have completed the Foundational Motivational Interviewing and want to deepen their skills and understanding of Motivational Interviewing.
This highly experiential workshop will be focused on guiding participants through exercises that will drop them into experiences that ultimately evoke transformative learning. The goal is to have participants - whether they are trainers, educators, group leaders, clinicians, practitioners, or people trying to help others in the community - be even more bold in their caring work. The mind often blocks us from deepening our connections, but to evoke empathy, compassion, and collaboration, we must go beyond our fears, and engage with people through the heart.
Many practitioners already have a good grounding in the basic spirit, structure, and skills of MI, but need help in getting past any roadblocks with the people they collaborate with so that they may fully embrace and utilize Motivational Interviewing. During this workshop, participants will be exposed to a series of different exercises that we have found especially effective in communicating the spirit and in helping deepen practitioners’ skills of Motivational Interviewing.
This workshop will be lively as participants in our concurrent Teaching Motivational Interviewing workshop will be periodically joining to lead exercises as part of their training. We are offering this workshop, as well as the Basics training, at a discount and will be inviting feedback about the new trainers.
From recent MI: Advancing trainings:
-
I truly enjoyed every part of the training and learned many strategies that I will be incorporating into my clinical work.
-
Beautiful synthesis of teacher and learner engagement, allowing opportunities to all to hold both roles.
-
I really enjoyed the practice that the training provided and just allowing for the attendees to be able to learn and through some classroom education but primarily practice implementation.
